Post Christmas detox?

It is about this time of year that we start thinking about detoxing after the Christmas junk food.  Detox

I once said to God that I would eat healthily for Him, (being very spiritual) but His reply was that He was more interested in my heart.  And I do think that for the most part we should eat wholesome foods, but it is our heart that holds the springs, or source, of life.

“Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”  Proverbs 4:23  AMP

God wasn’t joking when He said we need to forgive or to let our anger go by the time the sun goes down.  Holding on to resentment, hatred and unforgiveness can literally change the composition of our blood and impair the immune system.  Some of the resulting diseases range from tension / migraine headaches to autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia, heart attacks and high blood pressure.  God doesn’t say not to do these things because He likes to lay down the rules, but for our own good / health.

Some things I have learned from my ongoing “detox”:

  • Forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling.
  • Some of the emotions I couldn’t cope with, especially anger, I found I could give them to God. I pictured myself giving them to Him.  Sometimes I needed to do this over and over.  Or I asked Him to lift them off me.  Either way, it helped!
  • Sometimes I needed to talk with my counsellor friends.
  • The flesh kicked, screamed and threw tantrums about how unfair it all was.
  • It is freeing.

Am I there yet?  Are you kidding?  It’s more like a journey.

I am praying for you.
