Sometimes the Christmas season is just plain difficult. It can remind us of loss, of better times and what used to be. The first Christmas without my Mum was really quite painful, and I know some of you can relate. But I have found a verse that has always been a comfort to me, and I like it especially in the long extended version, otherwise known as the Amplified Bible.
……for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Hebrews 13:5b
I used to strive for God’s presence, until I realised that He promised that He would never leave me nor forsake me. So whether I feel Him or not, He is right there with me. 24/7. Others may come and go in my life, but He is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother. And I can talk to Him whenever I need to, and He will answer. How wonderful is that?
